Great Blue Heron photographed in flight by Heather Davidson.
Photographs by Heather Davidson and Joe Lupsha
Heather Davidson is a semi-retired professional photographer with an outstanding resume. She lives on the Pond Road in Manchester on Lake Cobbosseecontee. She and Joe Lupsha, an experienced photographer as well, often join the Commodore and his wife, Vivian, with Bill and Evelyn Kieltyka, for the annual loon count, and recently they were able to spend some time on the lake with us to photograph loons. And what a successful day that was. The loons cooperated by putting their chicks on display in three different locations, and later we even witnessed an osprey tearing apart a fish and feeding it to her youngster in the nest. And it was a calm, quiet, peaceful, sunny, hot day. Just beautiful! What an adventure. Heather sent us the loon/chick photo below taken at the south end of the lake. Heather and Joe take wonderful photographs.
Thanks Heather and Joe for allowing us to display your wonderful photos!
Heather is also known for an earlier publication, "Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Watermen 1985-2005," that was published in 2009 and is now sold out. A 20 year history of Maryland's Chesapeake Bay commercial fishermen at work, that book contained over 160 photographs and illustrated an in depth picture of how those men made their living.
For news about their latest book, go to our Lake News page! Their new book is just plain fun and will give you an amazing look at the life of ospreys! Pick one up before it sells out as well!
Here is another photo Heather sent to us. This beautiful shot of Ladies Delight Island Lighthouse however, was taken by her friend, Joe Lupsha, from the east shore on October 24 at 8:40 AM. Thanks Heather and Joe!

These three loon photos...
were taken on...
September 2, 2011.
This cooperative loon was photographed during the 2010 loon count trip.
The loon below was photographed on an August morning
in 2009 and had the advantage of a nice sun.
Can one ever tire of images such as these? They are just so representative of this wonderful Maine treasure, Lake Cobbosseecontee! Thank you so much, Heather!
